Charmed

I shall burn
your poems
she said
and rub their ashes
over my body
Snakes
were never my metaphor

But I have another
for you
he said
You will find it more charming
than the others
perhaps
it will draw
you back

Why must I seek love
in strophes and iambs
she said
where kisses and caresses should play
instead of words
too beautiful to resist
washing over me
